Kate Mellon has over fifteen years in education as an energetic educator who received a BA in Education from Wake Forest University. As someone who was a Division 1 Student-Athlete (and Field Hockey National Champion), she understands the intense pressures of being a student athlete in high school and at the college level. After graduating Kate taught five years at a Honor School of Excellence in Winston-Salem Forsyth County, North Carolina. With a desire to increase student achievement and intense research, Kate pioneered critical literacy groups in the county. Kate earned a Masters in Language & Literacy from Lesley University where she focused her efforts on developing critical thinking in literacy and effective writing skills through collaborative approaches.
Kate provides specialized tutoring services for students with disabilities and learning differences. She has extensive training and experience in working with students with ADHD, dyslexia, and other challenges. While in the classroom, she created one of the first classrooms at her school that allowed for true inclusion of students with special needs while she worked closely with the special educator.
As a mom to four children, Kate loves watching them do what they love. Most often, this time is spent on the sidelines of a lacrosse field (Go Freight Train & LS Warriors). During free time, Kate enjoys walking her black lab and hiking in New England.
